At Rangiora Lifecare, we understand that the financial aspect of residential care can play an important role in the decision-making process. We believe that quality, compassionate care should be accessible to anyone who needs it, which is why each of our locations has a mix of both standard and premium accommodations.
From rest homes and hospital-style rooms to our specialised dementia care home, we offer a range of residential options that are eligible for government funding.

Who pays for my care?
Before enrolling as a resident at Rangiora Lifecare, you will be assessed by the Needs Assessment Service Co-ordination Association (NASC), who will help to identify your care needs and arrange for a means test with Work and Income New Zealand. If you meet the relevant criteria, you may be eligible for partial or fully subsidised care.
As per the current WINZ guidelines, you may be eligible for the Residential Care Subsidy if you:
are aged 65 or older, or are aged 50-64 and are single with no dependents
are assessed as needing long-term residential care in a hospital or rest home
need this care for an indefinite length of time
are receiving contracted care services.
The base funding level is set by Te Whatu Ora and is reviewed annually in partnership with the NZ Aged Care Association. As of September 2022, those with less than $256,000 in assets are entitled to a 100% government subsidy. Please note that this only applies to standard accommodation options across our three residences.

Our independent living villas and serviced apartments do not fall within the scope of government funding. If you have any questions relating to costs for independent living villas or serviced apartments please contact our care home managers and they will be happy to answer them for you.
What isn’t covered by government subsidies?
We aim to be as transparent as possible with our pricing to prevent any unexpected costs. It’s important to note that the government subsidy is only for what is considered “standard service” and does not include optional add-ons.
Premium accommodation
Within our wide range of accommodation options are both standard and premium rooms. Should you wish to live in a premium room these are chargeable at an additional rate of between $0-50 per day. Premium rooms may include some of the following features: larger room, personal ensuite, superior outlook and private deck/patio access to a courtyard.
Optional add-ons
We offer a wide range of optional add-ons to help guests feel more at home; these are not included in the government funding. From magazine subscriptions to hairdressing and podiatrist appointments, we can facilitate most requests.
Independent and assisted living
Our independent living villas and serviced apartments do not fall within the scope of government funding. If you have any questions relating to costs for independent living villas or serviced apartments please contact our care home managers and they will be happy to answer them for you.
