Specialist Dementia Care

Providing person-centred dementia care in Rangiora

Compassion is at the heart of our care

A dementia diagnosis is an incredibly difficult piece of news to receive. Dementia is a profoundly life-changing condition and diagnosis can evoke strong emotions. Not only can this be very confusing for seniors living with dementia, but it can also be incredibly hard for family/whānau.

Everyone’s experience with dementia is different. The good news is that with a positive environment and appropriate support, afflicted individuals can continue to live fulfilling lives. An early diagnosis enables access to practical and emotional assistance, education and care and allows the opportunity to plan for the future.

Our dedicated dementia care residence, Bainlea House, is run by clinical staff with advanced training in dementia care services. We tailor individual care plans to each of our residents and provide a holistic, person-centred approach that focuses on the ability of the individual rather than the disability.

Our approach to dementia care

Inspired by modern dementia care practices, our goal is to create meaningful, stimulating environments that focus on experiences, not processes. The intention is to enhance well-being and allow residents to remain active in everyday life, in ways that mirror their lifelong hobbies and preferences.

As a specialist dementia facility, we offer a wide range of activities for all cognitive stages, ensuring our residents have access to as much stimulation and companionship as they desire. Our care staff are fully engaged with residents and regularly chat with them about the past using visual cues to encourage reminiscence, memory recall and positive feelings of nostalgia.
